I have a 10,000 rpm SST 818 and on the back it has a marking that reads ....Volts 12CD....

Capacitive Discharge (SP?), basically an early transistor ignition.

The 818 listed as merc.CD---One of the tachs that could be used with magneto on a mercury outboard motor.The trigger of tach goes to dist.pts.---No sending unit needed...
