Default Kingdon Dragstrip Lodi,Ca

I've heard the story's since I was a kid that anyone in Northern California that was into drag racing from the 50's through the 70's,has been to or heard of Kingdon Drag Strip. My dad told me that every Tuesday night Kingdon was the place for grudge racing and that he had seen some of the greats run out there, TV Tommy Ivo, Big Daddy Don Garlits, and Don the "snake" Purdome.Well like so many other dragstrips Kingdon was closed down in 1978 and then later used as a small private landing strip, but 28 years later a small business owner decided to jump through all of the city and county hoops not to mention out of pocket money (a process that would take a year to do) in order to open the track for one day of racing. Well that day finally came and the response was overwhelming, Here are a few pics...

My understanding is that another date has been set for May 19 and could possibly open quarterly.

That's cool to see the old girl alive again.

Strange timing; my wife and I drove out to our old Strip yesterday afternoon to take a look. Kinda sad to see nothing but the asphalt ribbon left. Still, it brings back a ton of great memories.

Glad to see northern California is alive and well again. I guess Infinion Raceway is your closest drag strip? Judging by the pictures there was no problem getting thousands back again. Even the aerial shoot shows not many houses around to complain. Beautiful country.

It looks to me like someone has a half mile dirt track down there. Most likely a horse track, my Dad had a ranch that had a track like that and growing up we would run our motorcycles around it all day until a crash or Pops kicked us off it. Time to muck out the stalls again.
