Default How to adjust Muncie shifter ball?

This probably ranks pretty high up there in the "dumb question" ratings but I just gotta figure out how this works.

How the heck do you cinch up the shifter 'ball' when using a two-piece ball assembly? There's a chrome 'bottom half' that threads on before the black 'top half'. If I just tighten eveything up, the shift pattern is off. If I back off the top half to get the shift pattern to look right and then back off on the bottom half to cinch them together, then they both turn as one piece right back to where I was.

It's really driving me nuts. Short drive, I know, ha ha.

Anyone know the secret?

My Chevelle has the same two piece ball Denis. The "Chrome" section should actually act as the STOPPER for the top section, at least it does for mine. I have to adjust the two every so often is all. Don't know what else I can say, maybe the threads on your chrome part are just worn too much

I use to stuff a small amt of paper up into the ball of my Hurst Auto/Stick to take up the slack to line up the shift pattern............

Or you can put a thin nut on the bottom before you install the ball. That lets you set the ball in the right place and then tighten the nut to keep it in place
