Default Yenko Chevy holding lot pic

Many have seen this pic and hopefully can provide some insight. There appears to be some black cars in the mix; were all these cars converted to Yenkos or were some "regular" COPO's sold to customers? What was the source of the radioactivity? Is the lot still there? And any other trivia regarding the pic that might be known.

Ed

This brings to mind an interesting question:

Has anyone ever taken a radiation measurement of one of their Yenkos? Seeing that they all sat around in the highest radiation waste area on the East Coast, and the half life of most of that stuff is measured in the thousands of years, wouldn't it be plausable that the easiest way to document that a car was a real Yenko is by the abnormal radiation reading they put out? Has anyone ever studied to see if there was a higher than normal cancer rate among long time Yenko owners? I smell class action lawsuit here...

Sorry, just being lawyerly there for a minute. Sometimes it just takes over.

That is correct. I have several of the original photos taken that day, and its clear the dark colored cars are fathom green, not black. To my knowledge, there has never been a documented 1969 COPO Camaro originally ordered from Yenko that was finished in anything besides the standard 6 "Yenko colors".

Its also interesting to note there are at least a couple X11 cars with factory painted-on fender pinstripes in those pics. I wonder if these were always removed prior to applying the Yenko stripes, or if a few cars could have ended up with them left on, since they would have been below the Yenko applied stripes.

Joe, do you have any pictures of the 69 double COPO Chevelles, and the L78 Novas before conversion? Were these cars parked near the double COPO Camaros in the same lot, or elsewhere?

There were some Chevelles in the same lot, although theyre off in the distance, they look to be COPOs with rally wheels. The front end of one Nova can be seen in the corner of one pic, but you can't really tell what it is... the lot had a bunch of non-high perf stuff in it too, including 4 doors, a Step Van, Biscaynes and Impalas, and I can even see one non-SS El Camino.

Thanks Joe. Any other pictures you could post of the lot would be appreciated.

I've always loved this pic....don't think I've ever seen any others but would sure love to? .
Joe, are the other pics something you've had for long or part of your recent motherlode? .

And Steve, quite the thought on documenting the Yenko cars by radiation readings. . Be careful here as you wouldn't want to find this is true and have any cars confiscated. . I know of a military vehicle collector who had some units taken from him after high readings. .

I've had the pics of the Strabine Street lot for some time, they weren't part of my recent purchase. I'll likely have them on display at SCR if anyone would like to take a closer look.
