I have a LA built 1969 SS RS Camaro built in October 1968. It has a complete cowl hood set up but I do not think it was original to the car because of the build date. I was going to modify the hood to fit my 16 inch air cleaner but before I do that I want to make sure it is not an original GM part. How do you tell the differences of a GM versus a after market cowl induction hood? In case I am wrong is there a way to tell if the car is an original cowl induction hood car?

Cowl hood Norwood cars have a hole pierced in the firewall just above and to the left of the wire harness hole (facing the firewall from the engine comapartment).
I assume that LA cars are the same.

An easy way to tell a original hood from a repop is, Look at the rear corners of the hood where it meets the cowl and fenders. With the hood open,On a GM hood there is a little kick down or notch in the metal. On a repop there is just a 45 degree angle in the metal. This may sound confusing but if you look at the hoods you can spot the differance from 20' away.
GM HOOD BELOW: ![]() No cowl induction hoods installed on a Camaro until the beginning of January. Yes there is a very late December built ZL1 Camaro with one, but I would say that is a special case. Notice to dealers of the options existance didn't go out until Thanksgiving of 68. |

Thank you Mark. I guess I will go get a fiberglass hood to make the air cleaner fit.

Here's the same area on a repro hood for comparison.
