Default Jim Hughes "New" Nova

This car was built in this area in 2001 for the purpose of competing for the Good Guys Street Machine of the Year. At that time it had dual Holleys on a crossram and did not have the leather interior. It won the Nationals in Ohio. It was the cover car for November 2001 Popular Hot Rodding and was featured in other magazines.

The car has 4 wheel Baer disc brakes, Heidts front end and air bag suspension. The owner could not get the car to run to his satisfaction and had another motor built(small block Motown 409) using TPI. The car still did not perform as expected and was subsequently parked for 2 years only to be traded to a friend of a friend for a race car.

My friend(a real Chevy engine guru) called me on News Years night and said I should come and see this car that had been hauled to his shop. LaDonna and I fell in love with it and decided to sell the L79(which did not get driven much)and buy a car that would be a blast to drive.

The engine problem was quickly diagnosed as WAY too much cam trying to make 700hp streetable. Cam was swapped out for a Comp 260 and now the car puts 465 hp on the ground at 6000 RPM and 5.5lb boost and is a real kick to drive.

Thanks, Jim

Love them Chevy IIs. Nice ride. Great color. I imagine that'll set you back in your seat and put a smile on your face!

Bruce, thanks for posting the pictures. Yes, the car is definitely a blast to drive . We live in a very small town with one main street. It is really fun to cruise through on Sat & Sun afternooons. Heads turn wondering what is coming down the street . Jim

Jim, My pleasure! Thanks for sharing the car with us. I love the 66-67 Novas...it was the first car I ever wanted (never got one though )

I love the fact that you drive the Nova. That's what it's all about, isn't it?

Beautiful car!
