Default mrtimstik (Tom's) Trick 1966 Chevy II

Here is my 1966 Chevy II. I have had it since August of 2004. I found it at
a local show and fell in love with it immediately because back in 1978 while
I was paging thru Hot Rod magazine, I saw the Street Machine of the Year and
it was a mist blue pro-street 66 Chevy II built by Scott Sullivan. From that
moment on I said I want one of those.

Snap back to the car show, while
looking at the car, the owner answered all my questions and showed me all
around the car and then asked if I would like to hear it run, Sure I said
and he started it up and it sounded so good and loud and lopey and shaky I
had to turn my head so he couldn't see me smiling. I owned the car two days
later. I shopped seriously for two years with cash in hand and passed on
about 6 cars until I saw this one. Some were dogs and others I could not
afford. Always saving more money and gaining alot of knowledge along the
way. My car is a California black plate SS Chevy II model with a stock
exterior and very clean stock interior. I have added a fine modern stereo
system but it is going to be completely removed and replaced by a stock
radio. The car is so loud inside I can't appreciate the sounds and I prefer
to listen to the exhaust. The drivetrain consists of a John Barrett
Cruzer/Crusher 420 motor, Dr. Evil Pure Evil 700R4 trans and a Ford 9 inch
with a Moroso Brute Posi unit 3.90 ratio. The laundry list of parts in this
car consists of Scat, Keith Black, Comp Cams, Crane, Edelbrock, Barry Grant,
MSD, Melling, Milodon, ARP, Hooker, Ron Davis, Black Magic, March,
Flowmaster and Global West to name a few. I have a very thick folder full of
receipts dating back to 1983 when it seemed like work began on this car. I
have actually even made parts for the car myself in the machine shop. The
car was put together very nicely and it is very clean and It's a blast to
drive. Last summer I took it to Nova Nationals in Cedar Rapids Iowa. It
drove there and back without a hiccup even tho there were a couple redline
smokeshows in between. Used a GPS unit as a speedo and this car can move.

Take care all. Tom

Poor unsuspecting slobs who would challenge this beast. You don't even let them see your tach. Very stealthy! Cool ride. THanks for sharing.

Not only is this a well put together package, but you should hear the engine in Tom's car while it's running.......Nasty, Nasty..........(The way it should be)

Yes, my geardrive was making what seemed to be alot more noise than normal and when I removed the timing cover to investigate the "dogbone" piece was actually hanging off the assembly. Look closely at the geardrive picture at the piece in the titleblock of the print. I have the old pieces and the new pieces there. I made the new pieces twice at thick and then case hardened them. I used the old pieces to model the new ones using a 3D CAD program, made a print and then made 2 on a CNC machine. Honestly the whole design/manufacturing process took less than 3 hours. The reassembly took 2 Sundays.

Nice Car! I had a 66 L-79 car back in the late 80's, what a blast to drive. One of the better body styles that GM produced in my opinion.

I too have been fortunate enough to see, hear, and get a first hand demonstration of it's capabilities. A very cool car that I can't wait to video at the Grove.
