Default Frriday's Finds !!!

This is my first post here, but have been browsing for a while. Awesome site!!! Awesome knowledge!!! I love it!!!

I wanted to tell a little story about my sightings yesterday (Friday). I was on my way to work and happened to look down a side street and saw an old orange car parked a little ways down. I turned around and went for a look. I don't know much about GTO's, but it looked to be a '69 or '70 GTO. It was in pretty rough shape, but definately restorable. This brings up a question - Did all GTO's have a hood tach or only Judges?? This car has the cutout and bolt holes for a hood tach. I was excited to see a classic car sitting out in a driveway!! But wait...it gets better!!

On my lunch break I ran some errands and on the way back I happened to look down a driveway and OH MY GOD!! I spied a '69 Shelby Mustang. Red, gold stripes, dual exhaust in the center, sequential tailights, etc.. So I knock on the door........no answer. I knock on the door of the back house.....no answer. So I go and check out the car. It was disassembled, but overall looked to be in good shape. As I am walking out of the driveway, the neighbor across the street waves me down. Turns out he has lived there his whole life. He asked what I was doing and I explained that I was a classic/muscle car enthusiast and was simply taking an innocent look. He said that people stop and ask if its for sale all the time! The owners are 3 young men who brought it home 10 years ago, took it apart to restore it and it has been sitting ever since. Gee, never heard that one before!! The car was complete and running when parked and all the parts are in the garage. As we were talking one of the kids walked by and down the driveway. I flagged him down and asked him about the car. He had absolutely no interest in talking with me. Not for sale, gonna restore it, blah blah blah... Oh well, never hurts to ask!!

Ok, if you have stuck with my ramblings thus far, it gets better!!!!

The neighbor says that if I like Mustangs that he has something to show me. I say ok...cool! He starts to tell me a story about how his neighbor was an older lady who passed away and her family had bought her a new Mustang before she pasted away. He could show it to me! The car was driven for a few months until she died, had 1700 miles on it and has not moved since. So we walk around the old, neglected, beat up house to the garage. The house and garage were both in total disrepair. He said that nobody has lived there for over 30 years. Around the back of the garage we go. He has me look through an old window, glass falling out, trash everywhere. Inside sat a '66 Mustang coupe. White with red interior. It looked like a car that has sat for a very long time. It was complete and in very good shape. But I couldn't see much more. Too dark inside and too much crap around it. I'm not much into base coupe Mustangs, but if the story is true, it would be a nice car to pick up!

Ok...I've rambled long enough for my first post here!!

Thanks for listening....

I am going to try to get pictures and can post them if any one is interested!!

Russ...

Quite a first post there, Russ. Welcome.

Similar "backyard" find (actually behind a local pawn shop). Guy will not let it go, we've tried. 70 455 4spd conv.

To answer your question, hood tachs were optional on the GTO and Judges. Werent standard on any model from the factory.

Love those 70 GTOs. Does anyone remember the multicolored 70 GTO from the Sears DieHard Battery commercial where the parents took the son's car because their battery died??? They could barely drive the goat and it was bucking back and forth. Great old commercial, probably mid to late 70's.
