searching for vin history

does anyone know where i can go to find out the owner history of a car by using the vin number ?

You can do a state title search but most only go back 10 years anymore. Give it a try. Contact Dept. of transportation in your state.

illinois, i have some original paperwork from a 68 chevelle SS 396/375 hp car from the day my dad bought it new from lattof chevrolet in march of 68. just trying to find the car.

I believe Illinois has the 10 year rule going, with no option to search the archives. I'll try to find the appropriate DMV link.
