Does anyone know what would be the correct paint markings for a 4-speed Muncie driveshaft in a 69 Camaro (396 L-78)?
Mine looked to have either Yellow or Orange stripes about 12 inches away from one end. Thanks, Paul

How were these paint markings applied originally? How would one go about reproducing these?

While we are at it, how about a 350/300hp 4spd?
Did these stripes just designate type of trans?

That mark is exactly what mine looked like. Looks like two seperate stripes in Orange applied with some type of brush while the shaft was turning.

Mosport,
I may be speaking out of turn here as I am refering more to Chevelles but the stripes are not meant for inspectors, they are there for an easy eye reference to line workers to pull the correct shaft from the bins based on the color codes listed on the build sheet. The M-20/21 use a different tail shaft than a Turbo 400 and/or an M-22 and therefor use a different driveshaft flange. The colors are different on the shafts depending on transmission. Also in the case of Chevelles, the engine size may also make a difference since a 454 uses a different shaft than a 396 car. Just trying to clear up a possible misunderstanding. Rick
