From "Corvette From Six to Stingray"
"One such 1970 ZL-1 Corvette, as used at the GM proving grounds, was duplicated for a customer by Baldwin/Motion Performance Group. This Corvette, equipped with a special high-stall speed reworked Turbo-Hydro, recorded sub 11 sec quarter mile et's and could be driven on the street......" (the rest is tech specs) Is this a known car? Was it ordered as a factory ZL-1 or does it have a crate engine? Beautiful car!!

This car is the Gold/Black '69 Phase III GT that was just sold at auction not long ago. It was the only GT that had the scoops on the side pillars because the customer wanted it that way.
![]() It's no way a factory 70 ZL1. The GT was Joels design. But if you're talking about this particular ZL1, http://corvettes-musclecars.com/cgi-bin/...L-1%20427-430HP ..It's been said that GM copied the Motion paint scheme on this car http://corvettes-musclecars.com/cgi-bin/...20427-430HP;i=1 ..and there IS also a Baldwin/Motion L88 Phase III Vette that looks identical to this factory ZL1 vette that was built for a customer. white/black stripe. ..Whether it was modeled after the ZL1 I don't know ![]()

Hell just a 425hp with a 3:36 rear was a real turd to drive in heavy traffic. Only good on the expressways. The wilder cam in the L-88 was even worse.

You gotta remember--- This is AT least 35 years ago --There's places that would take me 15 min to go back then now take me 45min to an hour sometimes---EX .Brooklyn to Staten Island----Back then you could normally ride from place to place in Brooklyn , Staten Island Long Island measured in minutes, not hours----Granted-tooling around town in L/88 can be a workout, but what better way to work up a sweat--
