I researched my VIN and trim tag last night for a guy who was interested in a car. The trim tag varifies what you can see on the car, White, Red Standard bucket interior, 4-sp, V8, RS/SS-350, deluxe appearence group. But what I wrote down the VIN it start 12337 which is for a 6-cylinder coupe. What's the deal? I don't see any tampering with either tag.

How about a picture of the cowltag? Vin numbers usually never lie, and yes that is a 6 cylinder VIN.

I do have a picture of it and I will post it later. The only problem with someone faking a trim tag would be that you would have to find an RS/SS-350 trim tag for a white/red 4-sp car, because that is definately what the car was from the factory. Then someone would have to buy all the hide away headlight set-up, put a 12 bolt in the rear etc.

Whats the VIN and Trim Tag data. Esp the Build date from the Trim Tag. Like MrT states, VIN is problely correct. Double check the Partial VIN looking through the Passenger side Cowl Vent. it should be something like 17Nxxxxxx or 17Lxxxxxx with the N/L being the assembly plant for your car and the x's being the last 6 of your VIN Plate on the car.

I had all this info written down last night so I do remember some of it. I remember the trim tag build week as 025, Feb. 5th week. Norwood. The cowl is off so I will see if I can find the VIN there.

Sounds like you're looking at the body number on the trim tag, not the VIN number on the door. You would need to give us the information from both the VIN tag and the trim tag to determine if it sounds fishy or not. A picture of the trim tag is helpful as well. If the trim tag is held on with screws, that's not a good sign. It could be that somebody swapped the driver's door from another car and it was a 6 cyl car. What is the VIN on the title?

I see one important thing wrong so far. The last six
digits on the hidden partial Vin# under the cowl, should match the last six digits on the Vin#, located on the post. In this case, they don't. Let's take a look at the cowltag, and go from there. What's the partial Vin# on the engine?
