Hi everyone.
I want to start off with a comment about the following post. I have been criticized for posting a topic here as well as on other forums in the past. I do this because I am trying to reach as many knowledgeable people as I possibly can. If my "double posting" offends anyone, please let me know. ![]() Do any members here have any experience with getting non-SMOG exhaust manifolds drilled & tapped ( properly ) to use with factory SMOG equipment? I have been hunting the proper dated manifolds for quite some time now. I did find correct dated non-SMOG manifolds ( which I bought as a backup ). Now, I am faced with the prospect of getting these manifolds drilled & tapped for the SMOG ports. I can certainly contact machine shops to do this, but centerline dimensions are fairly important I would think. Furthermore, the configuration of the actual ports are also important. I only have one shot at this, so perfection is the order of the day. To that end, does anyone have a recommendation for a shop that has done this type of work before? I don't want to learn the hard way. Also, I have been given conflicting information on the actual tap size used for the SMOG ports. What is the correct tap to use? I would prefer to work with a shop that has this experience under their belt. ![]() Steve

Sounds like it should be possible with a good machine shop, and a set of smog manifolds and tubes for a pattern. I'll bet GM drilled and tapped them after they were cast. I will ask around tomorrow if any of my local boys know someone who can do this. If there is, I also need a set done!

Steve...I would contact someone like Jerry MacNeish or Bill Hodel. They do a lot of smog system work. They should be able to help, or even do the job for you. Good luck.

I just recently saw a pair of non-smog that were converted to smog manifolds. This guy does them in a fixture in a CNC machine. You can not tell when there done. Looks like the factory did it. Takes at least 4 different tools to do it correctly. PM me if you want him to do yours. Guaranteed perfect.
