Well, I lucked out today and found the original owner of my new Z! Another previous owner had listed all of the owners of the car for me and after some creative spelling I contacted what I believed to be the second owner of my car. After confirming that he was the fellow I was looking for I asked him when he owned it. He replied that he was the original owner. Since I had a bill of sale for the car that had someone else's name on it I thought he was going to tell me a tall tale. I mentioned the paperwork I had and he knew exactly what I was talking about. He told me that the dealership had two '67 Z's on the lot at that time - one red and one green. They had to produce sold orders to get the cars, so they made up two names and got the orders placed. The guy who bought my car really wanted the red car, but the owner of the dealership's son had already spoken for the car.
He is going to document all of this in a letter to me and said he will look for any pics that he might have of the car. He traded the car back to the dealer for a new 70 1/2 Z-28. Man, I love small towns...people just don't seem to move around as much as those from larger cities, and this makes the hunt much easier! ![]()

That's great...having that history on a car is icing on the cake.

Mark, That is excellent that you found the original owner
. You just can't put a price on that. It would be great if he fowards some vintage pictures of the car to you. On a similiar note. About ten years ago, I called on an ad for a "1970 Chevrolet" for sale. It ended up being a Monte Carlo, not the Yenko Nova that I was dreaming of! But, I was speaking to the original owner, who was a 72 year old women. Which I thought was really cool. I ended up looking at the car and purchasing it. Tears rolled down her face when I drove away from her house and I felt terrible . I returned to her house, about six months later, with the car restored. She enjoyed seeing her car again and thanked me for the visit.Nick... |

Thanks guys
Yeah, I was pretty excited about speaking with him. There have been 5 owners prior to me (I thought there was 6 until today ) and I have spoken to 3 of them now. The 4th owner has a body shop in town and he has been very helpful in documenting the car. I called him today to see if he could help me locate some of the remaining guys. I mentioned who I was still looking for (John and Steve let's say) and he said, "Oh, John just drove by my house a few hours ago pulling a trailer with some mattresses or something on it and Steve works with a buddy of mine". Talk about small town luck! He has promised to get their numbers for me the next time he sees them.Researching these car is half the fun for sure and I just love it when a previous owner starts telling stories about his time with the car and you can hear the smile on his face ![]() Wish me luck with the two remaining owners!

Zedder -- I am so happy for you. Your lucky enough to have the original owner of your actually interested in your situation! I wish the original owner of my Camaro was halfway as interested as yours is!

Thanks Jon! Yeah, feels pretty good! I guess that explains why we couldn't find the guy on the original invoice
![]() Now I just have 2 more owners to speak with and both are still in the area. These two guys definitely have the answers to a bunch of my questions ![]()

Thanks Ron,
Yeah, it's pretty nice. Certainly the best project car I have come across in a long time, so I am grateful to have had the opportunity to pick it up ![]()
