Wow, I just looked it up, and Ed C. is listed as owning
#YS-028. Oh........JoeC, if you look at the Stinger emblem in this auction........that is an original one. Note that the Bee is raised and embossed. It is also not painted black as are the new repros. ---------- Rick |

Cool!!!!! A rebodied Stinger sells for almost 10G's.
Maybe I'm reading into it wrong......and someone please correct me if I'm wrong.......but the COPO Connection showed (before I posted my second post, but has since been edited) ED C. as owning this car. If Ed is not the current owner........did he want a rebodied car back so bad as to bid $8200.00 for it?????? Hmmmmmm.................zoomin69 is Ed C. on eBay. http://offer.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws3...tem=2462031432 Someone please set me straight if I'm reading into this wrong. |

I had sold this Stinger to a collector on the east coast back in September, 2003. I forgot to change the listing over to his name on my registry until you mentioned it. I bid on the car when I noticed it on Ebay, because my son was upset that I had sold it. A member of this board purchased it.

They are very neat cars to mess around with. I once owned #160, which was an all out race car, with 250+ HP. This was the one Mo autocrossed at SCR3. And, he must have enjoyed it, as he ended up buying a pair of Stingers. One was a race car and one was street legal. He sold these to get the Turbo Z., but I think has since regretted parting with them.
Even though most Yenko enthusiasts are not aware of it, to date, there is more paperwork, documentation, photos, etc on the Stinger program then any of the other offerings from Yenko. And, is very interesting reading. The Stingers really offer a lot of insight into how the big block COPOs came into being, as they were fleet ordered in as COPOs. They were the first COPOs to be sold by Yenko Sportscars, Inc, setting the ground work for their big brothers. Including getting GM to allow the COPO program to be used for h-performance cars and Don setting up the Yenko dealer network. If Ralph Nader had not written his book, "Unsafe at any Speed", which spelled the end of the Stinger program, Don may have stuck with Corvairs and road racing and never bothered with putting 427s in Camaros. So, next time you see one of these Stingers go zipping by, how about a thumbs up, as that is what started it all.

From talking with Ed C. and other Stinger owners, there were two different Stinger decals in 1966. One decal has an embossed Stinger that was used on the Stinger cars and the other has a black Stinger. The one with black Stinger was used by Yenko as a promotion give a way item. I have a box of Yenko items from the Yenko estate sale and it has some of these black Stinger decals. In the box are Yenko checks, recites, parts tags, pencils, and other items from the Yenko Canonsburg address. All these items including the black Stinger decals are originals not reproductions. The decals have a mfg. logo on back which I have not seen on any repros. |
