Default Title search back to '67, how is it done???

Howdy, I need a little help, I purchased a 67 RS/SS 350 car from southern Cal two years ago and would like to do a title search of all owners from new and maybe still be able to contact them, Not sure if the Car-fax thing will work all the way back to í67. any help would be appreciated.

Thnx Bud

Bud a car fax only goes back to 1981. Even if it went back farther it does not give previous owner info anyway. I have done several successful title searches but they could get tricky. Most states only keep records for a short time. Sometimes 5-7-10 years. A lot of states have a privacy law and will not even give a person the info. I would call the DMV and ask first before you write a letter to request a records search. Good luck

Can you e-mail with any tips, I am in up in Washington, and the car was in San-Diego Ca,and from some of the paperwork looks like it was in Arizona shorty, I think this is where owner #2 bought it and took it back to San-Diego, I bought it from a middle man that was a friend of owner #2 he had bothered him for years to sell it to him, must have finally caught him just right, but the middle man was probably not supposed to sell it, and pi$$ed off #2 guy, thus not able to retrieve the a/c comp and related parts that was off the car when i bought it. The short of it is I think he was in the Navy and out to Sea most of the time, He sighned the milage statement at 48K orig, to be Honest it is tough to tell if it is correct or 148K, He drove the car but didnt abuse it, it has the normal Desert dirt everywhere, and it sat in a carport and was drilled by the sun in through the drivers window and cooked some of the Interior, I would like to figure out the history of the car before I break it down for a quick detail job.

Thnx in advance for the help, Bud.

Check with your secretary of state...but the best thing is if you have names of owner #2 try to talk to him or start doing white page searches on the internet...it worked for me a couple times but I may have just gotten lucky...

I have tried to research titles on a couple of my cars, I have always run into dead ends except if you have a tennessee car. Iowa is another state where you can get most info, but they have to get authorization from previous owners before they will share info.

If you know a state patrolman or wish to call your state patrol HQ they have a specialist to address car related stuff. they have access to top secret NICB database. good luck.!!!!
