Default Feather Duster

Being a real GM guy I havenĂt heard anybody mention this car since high school (I graduated in 1979). When going to school in NJ and had a friend who had a 1970 Plymouth 340 Duster called a śFeather Duster” (on the rear quarter). It was snot green (that is what we called it) with a huge 340 WEDGE sticker on the hood. The only reason I am asking is I have found my high school friend and we were reminiscing about the car. By the way, it ran like stink! Does anybody remember these cars? What do you know about production, etc?

That is a car I have not seen around in a while either. However those were not produced until 1976. They consisted of an aluminum inner hood, trunk bracing, bumper brackets, and intake manifold; economy carb and distributor calibration; large exhaust system; high rear axle ratio; and either 3 speed auto or 4 speed overdrive manual trans. Their gas mileage was unbelievable for a car that size: 24 city, 36 highway. Very few were sold, mainly because they had to compete with the new Volare, which was in the same price range.

The car you describe is a 1971 Duster with the 340 and that the lettering on the 1/4 panels was added by the owner or dealer.................RatPack..............

Thanks KH, but my old job required me to do a lot of studying up on the Mopars and I have to thank that employer. Not only did I learn alot about those cars but I acquired a large collection of reference materials for that brand that I would have never thought of doing. I am Chevrolet all the way!

A friend had one of these cars and installed a 360 in it after the 225 threw a rod. Man would that thing fly on top end with that engine! He took a lot of flak over that car, not only was it the ugliest body design for the Duster, but it was baby blue to boot. When he hammered the throttle all bets were off and the crowd would quieten down..................RatPack...................
