Just wondering the whereabouts of 2 Camaros from my past. 1st is a 69 fathom green Z with green interior. This car almost ended up in my driveway 20 years ago. It was a JL8 car that was almost purchase from a place that I believe was called Classic Car Corral. Think it was in Dundee Il. The 2nd was my brothers 71 Z/28 w/auto. It was white with black stripes and black interior. Non-RS car originally but my brother added an RS front end to it. The car was later painted black w/purple metallic. This was my first favorite car. A long shot but just wondering if they found good homes.

Darren, I had an issue just like this with a 55 Chevy that my father owned back in 67-69. I tried to look for the car but had no vin number to trace it. It is as hard as looking for a needle in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The only real way to find your 2 cars is if you have the vin#'s and know someone at the Secretary of State that would be willing to trace them for you.

I hear you. With the JL8 car thought it might be possible. Rare option and maybe someone remembers the dealer I am referring to.

Darren, I remember the fathom green '69 w/JL-8 at the dealer on RT. 31 but it was in South Elgin (maybe what used to be known as Valley View at that point). I remember spotting it out there one Saturday evening in the fall of 1980 or 1981. I was interested in the car as soon as I looked inside the slots of the rear Rallys and saw the discs. I knew JL-8 existed, but never saw one before that. I remember it ZL-2 as well because I looked through the flapper to check if it had the cross-ram setup. It also had console w/gauges. It seems they had it for sale at $8000.I went back a couple of times later to look at it, but decided not to buy it as I was working on my '72 big-block and didn't have any extra, safe storage. A couple of weeks later the car was gone and the business permanently closed.
A couple of years ago when I was selling the '72, I got a call from a guy in the Fort Wayne area interested it. During the conversation he told me had owned a '69 during the 1980s, filling the description of the one from South Elgin but sold it after only a couple of years and lost track of the car. Did the '71 cruise down and hang out down at Montrose Harbor in the 1978-80 period? I seem to remember a white w/black stripe second gen as a regular there. |

Chris- Good to hear from you. South Elgin sounds more like it. I was 14 when I went with my Brother to look at the car. It was 1981 and my brother was looking for a car to replace his 78 Corvette. He was split between the JL8 and the one that we ended up with (which at the time was red with black stripes). In the end the color of the JL8 turned him off. Thinking of it now who cares about the color!
My brother sold the 71 Z in 76. The car was black with purple metalflake. The car ended up in Bellwood, Ill. From there I have no idea where it went. I loved that car, wish I could get it back.

I saw that car when I had my 4-wheel disc brake Z/28. I believe the guy was Jerry LaShure? who ran the dealership. The car was sold, and I never saw it again.
