Default ? on ZL1 Front springs on a car

Aloha. Wondering what the chance would be for a car back in 71 to have the ZL1 springs being a ZL1 car. (build is 10A) One of the guys on the Team Camaro pages states his car had them when he got it (late 70's) and that they still have the tag on them to identify them as such. Were these springs used in other BBC Camaros as well?

Jeff,

Do you mean 3955724 HQ springs? GM had a wide range of springs to fit the many option and engine combinations. When a car was build all of the options were considered before springs were spec'd for a car. The springs were then selected by "Electronic Data Processing" which identified the correct springs for the weight of the car including optional equipment. So the HQ spring fit the ZL1. The same spring might fit a AC equiped 350 or a non AC big block. It all depended on the combination of options. The correct spring was necessary to establish proper ride height.
