Looking for opinions on what the value would be for a 69 Z drivetrain.
DZ motor carb to pan with correct carb, intake, heads, block, deep groove pulleys, etc. No distributor or starter and non original alt (correct style, & pulley). Some extras like 772 fan with clutch, radiator, shroud, etc. Internals are not stock. Eagle Forged rotating assembly making 383 cu in, hydraulic roller cam & roller rockers. Much more fun than stock 302. Professional build. Maybe 5,000 miles. Running in car now. LA VIN on pad. Muncie M20, VIN matched to engine. Low miles since professional rebuild. Includes correct shifter (no handle), correct bellhousing and flywheel and newer Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. Recently removed, ready to go. BV 4.10 12 bolt posi. All orginal GM. Has been sitting several years in my shop (heated/dry) so maybe freshen up seals and maybe bearings but is in very nice shape and fully functional when removed. Includes GM 4 leaf springs and stock drive shaft. I'm sure some purist think I am crazy but my Z is undocumented, color change, etc and I will never put this drivetrain back in the car so why keep it. Car has already been changed to TKO600, built 3.73 12 bolt with disc brakes, etc. Thinking about changing to big cu in SB and fuel injection and coilover suspension and AC. Love to drive it, not look at it. If the value is not very high then I will store all of it but if its worth good money I would rather see it used in another car. Thanks for your opinions. Dana

I was the under bidder on that auction and can tell you the main reason it went for what it did was because the 2 high bidders (myself and one other) were after all the numbers for cars that were very very close to the actual VIN and the build dates. All of the drive line was also matching in dates and were dead on perfect for a late April build.
If it wasn't for the fact that it was a real 302 with the matching trans and diff and some hard to find dates, it may never of hit those numbers on an eBay listing. Not saying yours isn't worth the dough, but it would really depend on whether is was all matching drive train from one particular car and date, or if its all mixed parts from various cars. What is the transmission stamp and rear end dates? What is the engine stamp on your block? Real DZ block or something else? Pics would help as well.

NorCam: All from one car. As my description says LA VIN DZ block and matching LA VIN M20. Date correct BV rear from same car. All January 1969 dates.
the 427king: Think they are worth no more as a package? If not probably much easier to find buyers for the individual parts. Thanks to both of you for your input! |

Pictures of the deck stamp, head casting #'s and dates would go a long ways in determining the engines actual worth. Also, what bore are the cylinders at and are there any sleeves in it?

If I decide to sell I will have good pictures of stamps, lots of details, etc. Just trying to decide if I should sell it all or store away. Head casting numbers and dates are correct for the engine. Block is .030 over (just done when engine was built), one sleeve. I assume modern internals will be a turn off for some who want it all stock and a big plus for someone building a car to drive.

Another thing to consider is the VIN was it original to your car ? If not then someone maybe looking for it . Personally if it’s original to your car I think I would sell the car as a Z & pick up another roller to hack up & LS
