Default large bypass hose set up for 1972 chevy truck

OK, the madness continues. I built a high torque low compression, low RPM SBC to put in my 49 Studebaker farm truck. Finally got the NP542 resealed, got the massive flywheel resurfaced, and the 13 inch clutch and pp rebuilt, and am getting close to installing engine and trans. Have a PTO issue that I can worry about after she is up and running.

Pirated the engine (at least parts of it) and trans from a 1972 C50. Biggest issue is getting parts for the beast. NO ONE around here lists parts for 72 "medium" trucks.

Anyway, the big trucks of that era all have this massive cooling system bypass set up. Pic attached (its just sitting there). I am not going to be driving this truck all that hard, although, I may turn it into a vintage car hauler some day.

Any reason to use the bypass set up? On the pickups from that era, there is just a plug in top of the WP and no separate bypass. I am using an intake from a car, but the t-stat positioning is exaclty the same.
