Plus....it greatly depends if they are the first gen - which are more correct and give the nostalgic vibe or the new gen - which are not correct at all.

The 4.5 is a much later wheel. The ones I look for are the early 4" ones. I'm probably one of they guys that overvalued the originals
Pics would really help answer this question. |

I thought all the later ones were unilug. I've been looking for a nice set of old 15x4's for awhile.

The latest ones are made with the newer spoke tooling and can be had with straight pattern. If you can get past (most don't even notice) the flat spoke look and find the right conical lug- they are a great wheel. Chrome is much better than any of the Originals ever had!
Before the retool, they also made some 4.5" with the unilugs- much more traditional looking though the chrome was also higher quality. I personally would prefer to run these over the current offerings- and if I find a set at a swap meet for fair money- I'll scoop them up all day. With the right washer, few will notice they are unilug. At the end of the day, the day 2 purist/ wheel snob in me really appreciates when someone uses the truly authentic equipment. If you can't find any, run these till you do. Would love to see pics of what you're considering. GOOD LUCK! |

Paul (happy belated b-day btw), I got away from the car hobby for about 20 years and about 5 years ago, I picked up where I left off. I have been looking for a set of fat/skinnies Cragar wheels for one of my Camaros. I would like to see, on this site, a tutorial and pictures to ID the features you mention in hopes that guys like me know what to look for in dating and determining the chronological differences of Cragar SS wheels? I am on a budget, myself, but still want to make informed decisions if I find a wheel(s). Obviously, because I want an old school vibe and would like to emulate the Jenkins/Strickler look, the real deal wheels would be what I would want, but being on a budget, close may have to suffice. So, while looking, I would like to know what I am looking for and what I am looking at in these wheels. And, while prices are subjective and vary across the country, a price range guide for GM pattern wheels that fit 60-70s muscle would be very helpful. I would like to know if I should be looking for 14s or 15s? If 4, 4.5,5 in. Or what for the front? And rear choices or what is optimal for 69 Camaro anyway as far as width and offset? If 14s are worth less than 15s ? Thanks.
