I know the 403 bell housing is the correct casting for first generation Camaros w/10.5 clutch, plus many other Chevs of the 60s & 70s.
I have a guy with a 68 Camaro who wants to change it from an auto to a 4 speed. He said, it does not matter if it is a different casting as long as it is functional. So, here is the question: What other bell housing casting numbers should I tell him to look for that will work other than the 403? List all of them please. Thanks sYc.

Thanks. You might be able to guess, that if I know the 403 is for a 10.5in. that I also know the 621 is a 11in. application. I just am not familiar with alternative (translate=newer) casting applications. I kind of turned my car parts mind off after about 73-74 'cause I am living in the past and old school. Any others?

Bell housing number 421 looks like a 383 or 403, but the trans front bearing retainer hole is smaller...
421 is a 1963 only, so you don't want a 421... Hope this helps... Crash |

So, looks like the 383 is the only other bell for me to keep an eye out in searching. Thanks sYc.

383 probably the most common and reasonable priced alternative but 403's still around...

Bentley, I think you should be able to find a 403 for under 75 bucks. I did get one for 40 + shipping last year and even came with the shield and bolts. I usually do a search for part number not application.

Thanks, I believe I saw those? I think I can find one local for $50 or less and like said, it is for someone else, so it is their call if they want to use the net to find one.
