Default Who wants a boat anchor? I do.....

This is a recent run by Mr. Ron in the Tin Soldier II.... He runs a 305, commonly called a boat anchor.

If that's a boat anchor, I want one.

Although this statement by a facebooker says it all I think:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">It's all about the driver!
And when you have the words Tin Soldier on the side of a car you have a Legend behind the wheel</div></div>

Those 80's 305's were tougher than most gave them credit for, at least the L69 and TPI versions. You could put an L69 Camaro in the 13's for nothing more than a few bucks and a couple hours under the hood. And if more speed was required... well, it was still a small block Chevy, and responded to more intensive mods just like every other SBC ever made.

What killed the 305's rep in my opinion was the legion of 150 horsepower throttle body injected Camaros and Firebirds GM pumped out back then. People saw a 305 Camaro get its *** kicked in and punched back out by a 5.0 Mustang or turbo Buick and automatically dismissed the 305 as a turd, while the truth was that those 150-horse engines and the true high-perf 305's were two completely different animals.

I had an 84 Trans Am with the HO 305. what a joke. I think it was 185 hp? 5 speed destroyed itself. Glad to got rid of it for a Grand National

It's impressive what class racers can do with little 305s. However, those are pretty far removed from your basic &quot;stock&quot; 305.

I agree that these engines get a bad rap. They respond to all the same stuff that works on a 350. The biggest downfall is the small bore that shrouds the valve and hurts breathing capability.
