What's time period you can safely wax a new car?

My wife purchased a new 2015 SS first week of March. Car was special order and built 3rd week of February approx.

I have always been told/read you need to wait 6 months until you apply wax..Is this an old wives tale?
There was no info about this in the owners manual.

I asked the same question 5 years ago when I bought my new Yukon. My now departed friend who had been painting cars his whole life said that might have been true many years ago, but not so anymore. Wax away.

you can wax it immediately..just be cautious of a dark car in direct sunlight

Exactly. The &quot;new&quot; paints (well, they were new 30+ years ago) can be waxed right away. Old school lacquer, you should really wait 6 months.

its all old wives tales. I used to work as a new car detailer at an Olds, Honda and Ford dealerships in the 70's as a kid in the summers and we waxed all new cars before delivery.

Well, I should have said old school lacquer repaints when there is no oven. The factory lacquer jobs could get wax much sooner, as they were baked, which accelerated curing. Most hobbyists don't have that luxury. Waxing lacquer too soon is not just wives tale. May be lots of exaggeration, and differences of opinion, but still some truth.

Maybe you did wax them. At the dealership where I worked in the 70's it was polish only; big squirt bottle and a buffer. Probably would have been safe to wax an oven cured paint job at the dealership.

In the early '60s, the cars were shipped with a coat of wax on them that the dealer was supposed to remove in new car prep, then buff the paint &quot;if necessary&quot;.

Everyone I know will wax their new vehicles ASAP. Be sure to clay it first to remove the rail dust.

Would be interested in your opinions after you have had it for a while. Been eying them for about 18 months and is on our short list for wife's new wheels as well.
