I have a couple of the GM made headlight bezels for my 69 L78 Nova, but as you all know, they seem to only sell the non-SS version which has chrome bars on each horizontal bar versus the correct SS bezel which should have blacked out bars except for the top and bottom.
The question is, how you would paint out the center bars over the chrome? Can you simply use a self-etching primer and then paint with black? Or, do you need to somehow remove or scuff the chrome before painting over it? Thanks for your help. ![]()

![]() We had a thread about painting the Nova bezels here last year. Here's the old thread if any help... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...opics/541921/1 ~ Pete

Thanks for the help, Pete.
The thread you posted says "just paint them" with SEM Trim Black. I guess just painting over chrome is what they're suggesting. I wasn't sure if a primer was needed for better adhesion or not. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.

I did something a bit more involved with my fender gills. I power coated them with clear, taped the parts I wanted chrome, then prepped and painted them. I should ave tried that with the headlight bezels??

I may be wrong here, but I believe the correct/original 69 Bezel should not have the vertical rib at all with chrome exposed only on top and bottom horiz ribs.?

I think you are right JRSully about not having the vertical rib on a '69.
Does anyone know where I can find some correct '69 SS bezels?

My originals did not have the vertical run between the horizontal ribs.
