I have 2 sets of GM RALLYSPORT emblems.....NOS for 69 Camaro ....each set has 2 different emblems ...one is brushed chrome and the other is bright chrome ....which one is correct ....my application is my RS COPO ....I have photos from '72 showing the car with the RS emblems.....my research shows me other cars with only the script Camaro emblem in this same spot on the fender. My '72 photos are real...a dilemma ...as the car is undergoing a restoration

assuming fender emblems?
I <span style="font-style: italic">think</span> my June 69 built RS convertible had the brushed ones - BUT I can't remember EXACTLY and it is hard to tell from my pics of it (plus I sold it in 1988-89) check the date code on the GM boxes, the earlier date should be "more" correct

I agree with the brushed chrome idea. Also due to both RS emblems on the front grill and rear tail panel.

But I think it should have Camaro emblems.
Sandlin's old COPO is original paint. https://www.yenko.net/features/2003/July2003.htm There's others, like #68 ZL1, with original pics. The COPO's were based off of SS's and the COPO deleted the emblems. So an RS/SS would have an SS emblem, remove it and it defaults to a Camaro emblem. I bet someone added the RS emblems...

I will have to look at the car closer next time I see it and grill him on why it has RS emblems. There is a lot about his car that does not jive with what I know to be correct, but as a friend, we don't generally judge, question or scrutinize each others cars, kind of an unspoken code, but interesting topic, nonetheless.

Many years ago Super Chevy did a feature on a Daytona Yellow COPO-RS. They mentioned it had been converted to RS.
In addition to the cars already mentioned ZL1 #55 N641266 is another OE paint COPO-RS with Camaro fender emblems.

I don't have the pictures handy, but they have been posted on this site prior or at least one of them was.
Patrick Joiner had a HO automatic RS COPO a while back with the Rally Sport emblems. I believe he was able to track down the original owner of the car and got Vintage Photos of the car with the RS emblems. If you have an assembly line original Fender with the original emblem holes you might be able to determine if they were punched or drilled. |
