I am considering the purchase of a 1969 (SS ??) Chevelle with the L-78 option (375 HP). It was built in the GM Baltimore assembly plant in the 3rd week of September, 1968. I am still in the process of researching the engine's authenticity but my concern is the <span style="color: #FF0000">Body Trim Tag</span>. Two research books show the GM disclaimer to the dealer in five (5) lines of stamped text at the bottom of the tag. This vehicle's text is the same - word for word - but it was compressed into four (4) lines.
Also directlty below the paint code stamping on the right side is this stamping: B L016216. |

Careful, careful? Can you post pics of the car, tag, etc. Perhaps there are a few of us on here that already know this Chevelle?

Sounds like it is a '68 tag, which makes some sense being a very early '69 car... |

As mentioned already the early Baltimore Chevelles received the shorter (68) Trim Tags, they changed in the early months of 1969. Being a 09C build code it is a very early 1969 Chevelle. The code below the paint is common to all 1969 Baltimore trim tags, The B will be found on all hardtop bodies and may be related to the roof rail trim and the L is possibly, still unproven, associated to the SS (Z25) option. The number meaning other than parts being found on the build sheet is unknown. I will check my list and see if I have anything listed for the BL016216 number. Hope this helps, Andy
