Definitely era correct.

Here is mine. The mounting bracket is from 1974 but the extinguisher is dated 1982 (oldest chrome one i could find that fit the mid 70's era with the old style gauge art/shape. Found some chrome 50's and 60's types but did not fill comfortable using them.

The original builder of my car came back from a show in the late 70's and noticed someone had stolen the one in the car and he never replaced it. Parked the car in 1980 or 81 and when I got it all there was the mounting bracket bolted to the driveshaft tunnel.

I'm trying to peel off the decal and will replace it with a 74-75 era correct prism decal "Ford". The chrome is so so and I will probably have it show chrome and will have them "erase" the date stamped on the bottle.

Lot of guys ran NHRA, local speed shop, ISCA show decals, rainbow prism engine displacement decals such as 302 etc on them. One local guy had one of those metalflake NHRA peace signs decals on his.

Most common placement in the car was on the tunnel between the bucket seats or under the dash horizontally on the passenger side.

Most of the ones I have seen guys ran chrome but I come from a ISCA show car background/interest. I have seen lot's of red ones in old drag cars but never yellow. It would be easy enough to paint or have the housing chromed. What is neat with yours is it has that old style pressure gauge on it. Most guys would not now the difference but you would.

At the very least with yours I would get rid of that industrial factory look mounting bracket and get something that looks like it would be for car application. Your local fire extinguisher co may have some of the original style mounting brackets like mine.

Here is a "Day2" Fire extinguiser that was in my old 1969 Nova SS-the original owner's brother put it inside the car in the 1970's when he got the keys to the car-I kept it ..Just in case I want to mount it in my Firebird
