I got my car out on Friday for the first time this year and it fired right up and idles perfectly but after warm up I went to cruise around the neighborhood and I could not get out of first gear, as soon as you give it throttle, it pops and runs eratic. I did not have time to check it out, any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem.
Thanks in advance for your input. |

After I checked my firing order, pulled the dist cap, check the condenser, checked the timing with a light, and assuming there are no radical changes/jumps /erratic readings when running it up in garage. NEXT
I would pull the valve covers and see if I had any loose rocker arms.

You can try this with #5 and #7 cylinders spark plug wires have to be crossed going to the plugs or induction will happen and cause misfiring. Paul

Maybe the points are corroded or there is moisure in the distributor.

Thanks guys for all your input, I will check it out next week. The gas in the car is Cam 2 from last year, hopefully it is still good at $8 per gal.

Check your spark plugs also.. They do weird things.... Start with the easy/basics.... That Cam 2 won't go bad...

If you put it away last year and it was running good I would first go with a new set of plugs like Rich suggests. Could be carb issues. maybe the Cam 2 ate the accelerator pump up. Check your dwell and make sure the mice did not chew on your plug wires. If it is a BB I bet plugs and maybe some gum from the gas. Suppose to run these cars in the winter you know Jeff. NO lawn ornaments.
