A member of Moparts.com purchased a SS350 recently and has done a little research on it. Here's some info:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I actually have done quit a bit of reading tonight and learned a great amount from that site. It appears I have purchased a RS/SS 350/300 horse 4 speed car, red on red. That was the claim by the guy who sold it to the guy I bought it from, who doubted the SS part. I have to call him tomorrow to find out why he doubted it. My reason for thinking it is is that it has a 3/8 fuel line which was reserved for hipo cars, its not a SS396 or X22 or X66 would be on the data tag, and its not a Z/28 or X33 or X77 would show, leaving only the 350/300 horse motor, which was only available in an SS which would be and X11, which it has although all base Camaros were X11s.</div></div> The question that remains, though, is regarding the 3/8 fuel line - does it signify something? Is it the correct one? Any advice will make a Mopar guy really happy! |

If the 3/8" single fuel line is original it would be indicative of a solid lifter engine.

If SS it should have discbrakes and a telltale of original discbrakes (if changed from drums) is where the hosebracket on the frame is located.
Left rear framerail should have reinforcement plate for hanger. If it has these it is a very high probabillity it really is an SS. Jan |

and does it have a 12 bolt rear?
now the 12 bolt WITH the lh exhaust hanger plate and disc brakes SHOULD indicate an SS BUT the LM1 cars COULD have that combo as well ....

X11 is for style trim, X44 is a base Camaro. Where do the heater hoses enter the heater box on the firewall? Big block cars entered on the outside, all of the other motors on the inside.
Big block heater box with X11 = COPO. Next question, what is the code on the axle?

Here's more:
<span style="font-style: italic">If you could respond to Yenko that the car has the SS pittman arm, the brake brackets, no bracket for dual exhaust (although I believe that is documented as hit and miss. It doesn't currently have a 12 bolt in it but there are definite and obvious signs that the rear suspension is not original to the car, mix matched bolts and rusty patterns. There is also Chevrolet documentation that states 10 bolts were available in SS350s. So far I have found some things to indicate that it could be and nothing to say absolutely that it is or isn't. </span> |

10-bolt have been observed in SS350 cars when they were ordered with PowerGlide, rare choice but there are a few known.

no bracket for the driver's side dual exhaust says it is NOT an SS ....

Actually all V8 engines without a Rochester 4-bbl carb got a single 3/8" fuel line in 69 which includes all 307, 327, & 350 2-bbl models. That single fuel line alone will not signify it being a solid lifter engine, but it does rule out this car as being an SS 350 since they had the 1/4" return line due to the Rochester carb.
