Default 67 firebird rear question

I have a 67 firebird housing that has a large "N" cast in the cop of it. Is this for nodular like for the ford rears? It is a dual traction bar rear that had the HD 4-pin posi and 3.55 gears.
I have had other dual t-bar rears that didn't have the "N" in the past.
One person told me the "N" housings were only used in the 400 CID 4-spd RAM AIR VI cars.
I don't know anything about pontiacs and am trying to determine if this is a special rear or not.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Eric

Told you that I didn't know anything about pontiacs.
It should be ram air IV I guess.

I don't know about the rear end, but the Ram Air II didn't come out until mid year '68 and the Ram Air IV cars were '69 and '70.

If the below linked site is correct, any '67 Ram-Air 400 cars had the 'UT' 3.23 , 'UX' 3.90 or 'YL' 4.33 rears only..

http://www.firebirdgallery.com/67codes.htm

So regardless of the 'N' casting, check your housing stamp and if a 3:55 stamped UW it's a cool rear but not from a '67 Ram Air car..

Weren't the GTO & Firebird 6-Speed showcars built five or so years ago called Ram Air 6 cars?.

The nodular rear was a heavy duty option, but came on a lot of 4 speed cars....really tuff to get,,really expensive if you need one. Ive had 3.55 posi rears, and they werent nodular, they are the top performance rear..and they made Ram Air I birds in 67,,and it would be this type of rear in it, but 4.33s where standard. Has a better 4 pin posi that is heavy duty too...

Hey Eric, I know Pontiac did make the Nodular rears with the N cast in them. I owned a 68 GTO that had one in it. It also was a 3.55 posi. As far as the bird rear, I have owned about a half dozen of them dual bar rears/cars and have never seen or heard of one(nodular rear) in a bird. But, obviously they made them. I just keep on learning.
I assume it must be rather rare...the Pontiac site might be a good source to check. Let me know what you find out, ok. Cool stuff !! Max
