A friend of mine is putting a windshield in his 70 Chevelle SS 396 and sent a picture of his vin plate. Has anyone seen this xtra # on theres?

Wonder if the car was ever stolen or salvaged? Would an insurance company or state agency assign a new number like that for some reason?

the vin tag always have that part number above the vin #.
it is a GM part number with the manufacturers logo.
