Default The Burnout June 1977

When I visited Claes last weekend, he gave me some old timeslips that he got at Mantorp Park when he raced my COPO there in the 80´s. In the same envelope there was a magazine written by my friend "Bostic" (He races a black 1996 Impala under the name Blackout. www.blackout.nu )The word "Brinn-uten" was used in Swedish magazines during the late seventies instead of burnout in an attempt to use Swedish words. Today everybody says burnout. The magazine was written for the Umeå-chapter members of Swedish Hot Rod Association. It shows to some extent what kind of cars the guys bought back then.

On the frontcover we can see Bror Danielsson, the chairman of SHRA Umeå, making a burnout in his SD-455.

On this page there is a pic of the Wynncharger that Don Garlits sold to England. It made a 6.52 pass at Mantorp Park May 1977.

This lower pic shows SHRA-Borås Kent Persson on the left. The first European to make a 5-socond run. On the upper pic from the SHRA-Umeå exhibition, there seem to be a 442 at the right.

Here is another pic of the SD-455. Bror D. bought this one new and raced it from day 2.

Here is the Hurst Olds of Calle Grenholm. It seems like they actually raced in the rain.

This is the 442 W-30 that Thomas Fredriksson bought in the USA during fall 1975. It was in much better shape when it arrived, than what he had expected. He had just looked at some pics of it before buying it.

Those were the days !!
