Can someone tell me how this alternator decodes? I am having trouble reading the stamp and can't tell positively if it is 838 or 888, but I'm leaning more towards 838. It came with a 1968 Corvette L79 but the date seems late for a 68 model to me? Thanks!

If it is an 888-37 amp, those were installed on 1970 Buicks originally.
8-last digit of year. L-month November (Exclude letter I) 28-day assembled That's a pretty early assembly date for a 1970 model. It might actually be 836,which is a 37amp installed in any of these w/6 cyl. 1969 Caprice w/SMOG or P/S. 1969 Nova/Acadian w/SMOG or P/S. 1969 Chevelle US & Canada w/SMOG or P/S. 1969 Camaro w/SMOG or P/S. 1969 Canadian St.Wagon w/P/S. |

Thanks for the reply. I'm certain that last number is an 8, and fairly confident about the next to the last being a 3.
