Are std. bore ZL1 pistons still available? I was told they are no longer being produced. Can they still be custom made if they are not a regular production item?
Thanks again!

No, they haven't been produced in many, many years. .030" are even hard to get. .060" + is about all you can get. I had to go .030" because I could not find any and customs were going to cost $1000+ and they are not the same. This was 4 years ago. Sure hated to bore a new ZL-1 block.

You can buy "stock replacements" from about any piston company...grab the approved piston # off of NHRA.com and it will be a blueprint copy of the factory piston, which means it will *actually meet* the advertised specs, unlike the factory slugs...novel idea, huh?!?

I have a CP-Pistons ZL-1 piston you can have. It came out of a race motor, that I broke at the end of the year testing. The top of the piston is fine. The skirts are eat up. Send me your address and I'll send you one. If you smoke they make great ash trays, if not good paper weights.

The CP's and J&E's are right on the money. That's what we have used if the customer does not have OEM TRW's when they bring an engine to us. I think we've rebuild and repaired over a dozen ZL-1' engines in the past three to four years. We do a lot of them. Working on one of the proto type 427 Cam Am blocks now.
