Default Motorola 8 track restoration

Need steerage to a reputable outfit to mechanically and cosmetically restore my Motorola 8 track stereo tape player. 8 track still works but is a bit jerky. Also open to hear from some of the do-it-yourselfers out there wrt the cosmetic restoration.

Thanks

Was told by 'the' Carlisle vintage radio restorer that there is no known servicer of aftermarket 8 track radios bec/ of lack of demand and parts shortages/minimum purchases. I also need someone to fix my Lear Jet AM/FM 8 track that was a Yenko Catalog Item.

Marlin,

I have found a fellow in Prescott AZ that will do a mechanical resto. His quote was "...estimate for mechanical and
electrical restoration on the interior would be $475 plus parts and shipping" Cosmetic would be separate cost. He has an informative web site and is responsive.

Barry's!

$475 plus parts and shipping? Hard to imagine he has much business at those prices. I like this line on his website....

"Looking for top quality work? I fix equipment owned by NASA !"

What, NASA is still using 8 tracks? But seriously, perhaps that's where he comes up with his pricing structure. Our Government has been known to buy $600 hammers and $1000 toilet seats, so $500 8 track player repairs aren't much of a stretch of the imagination

Sam, Just go to Ebay and buy an NOS one. There are many versions on Ebay most of the time. Why would you restore something like that, for that kind of money?
