Default Bart Rome's (47Hammer) Beautiful 1969 Z/28

This Fathom Green with Black standard interior X77 D80 ’69 Z 28 was assembled at the Norwood plant 06A or the 1st week of June 1969. According to the Protect-O-Plate the car was originally purchased June 26th 1969 at Burt Chevrolet, Englewood, CO by Ken Nelson. Then on October 4th 1974 it was sold to Virginia and Elizabeth Gilky (mother and daughter) whose boyfriend installed the headers and repainted the car. They owned the car for nine years until it was sold to Randy Bennett on July 13th 1985 with 67,000 miles. For the next fourteen years Randy only put 887 miles on it and ended up selling it to Dennis Fernandez April 12th 1999 with only 67,887 miles. Five years later with just another 593 miles on it Dennis sells it to a Firefighter named Steve Allen with still only 68,480 original miles showing on the odometer on March 16th 2004.

Later that year after calling a friend about another car, I was directed to Steve who was looking to sell his documented 5 owner ’69 Z28 with original Protect-O-Plate, (born in) drive train, original glass, including windshield, complete interior other than the dash pad with one good repaint. All of this stuff and the motor had never been apart. Wow After many conversations with Steve about the car and after looking at all of the documentation, copies of all five titles from previous owners, the original Protect-O-Plate, various parts receipts and a complete inspection sheet documenting the authenticity of this incredibly original 1969 Z 28 by Larry Christensen of Camaros Plus in Arvada, CO, I decided to pull the trigger on November 9th 2004 and on the 20th of the same month took delivery of this incredible sounding Z (as it was pulled off the transporter) with only 68,612 miles on it. Every time I take this car out we get thumbs up from kids to cops and before I even park it and get out, someone is always asking about it. While at the Barrett-Jackson auction this past January and visiting fellow site members at the home of Denis for a great lunch, I had a chance to meet and talk to Larry Christensen and he remembered the car saying “cars like that are really hard to find”.

I do feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to own and care for this wonderful example of a ’69 Z 28 Camaro especially since it’s never been restored and other than the paint is totally original.

The rear end casting date is D-25-9 and the assembly bate is BU 0513 G2 indicating a 3.73 positraction.

The transmission case number is 660 and the assembly date is P9E06B with the Vin stamped on it of 19N656437 indicating that is the original transmission. The shifter is the original Hurst shifter as installed in 69 Camaros, however the lockout assembly has been removed due to the headers being installed. Sounds nasty too!

The engine casting number is 010 with a casting date of E-26-9 and an assembly date of V0528DZ and the Vin located above the oil filter is 19N656437 indicating the original block and the assembly date is verified by the Protect-O-Plate.

The head casting number is 186 and dated E-16-9

The starter number is 1108367 and dated D-2-9 indicating the original number and date for this car.

The alternator is number 1111837 dated 9E 23 indicating the original alternator and date for this car.

The intake manifold is a casting number of 472 which is original for the car.

The ignition coil is a 270 which is correct for a Z28 with factory cowl induction.

The air cleaner is an original cowl air cleaner based upon the flat bottom with no ridge in it.

The radiator has the original tanks and UH tag but has been recorded and the top and bottom rails were replaced.

The brake booster is a 9204 dated 140 with a US master cylinder and the correct proportioning valve. All of this assembly appears to be original to the car.

The fan is a 772 seven blade dated D 69 which appears to be correct and original to the car.

All the glass is original including the windshield With dates of LV, XV, GX and JV

Bart

Bart...thanks for sharing your Z with all of us. There's something about dark green Z/28's

I like the night shot of the instrument panel too...very cool...and the first time that I have seen that!

BTW, Bart is a really nice guy (We met at the party that Denis threw during B-J).

Also...how cool to be in a magazine...

Thanks again for taking the time to share.

What they said. I love the sound of a lumpy cam at idle, and the color combo rocks.

If Larry says it's good, it's good enough for me.

Sam if I had that Beautiful Black Chevelle of yours everything would look Black to me too. OK guys now we know what Sam needs for Christmas!

Bruce, Thanks again for taking the time to post the text and pictures for me, say hi to the girls.

Everybody goes nuts for those Black plates....Some nut even offered $500.00 at Bob's Big Boy one night.

I got the license plate frame from Ebay, that Chevy store was in my neighborhood when I was growing up.

Thanks for the positive comments.
