Default replacing bearings in 440 six pack 4/speed

Looking for some info have a friend that has a 69 R/R 440 /6 pack
Has a Number matching four speed than he is trying to replace the bearings The problem is he can not find
Out how to remove the idler gear off the in put shaft
It been over 30 years since I had one of this apart and can not remember the trick
