I'm tired of replacing drill bits and am considering the purchase of a drill doctor. Has anyone here used one? If so, what has your experience been with it?
Also looking for input on a good set of drill bits. Thanks, Blair

M-7 HSS material with 135deg split point work great, are tough and durable. Second choice would be the same made from M-2 HSS. Both work great in hand operated drill motors. M-42 HSS Cobalt bits are not as durable and are better suited for drill press use where feed/speed are easier to control. A good set will cost around $100. My company has them and can help if needed.
The drill doctor can get you out of a bind but a spare 29 pc index cost about the same.

With a bench grinder, it doesn't take all that much practice to sharpen a drill bit. Use a new one as an example for the angles. With a drill press you have some control when drilling. A hand drill tends to break a lot more bits, especially the smaller one.

I picked up a small jig designed for this for under 10.00 at princess auto which sets the angle and works well with the bench grinder.I hear the drill doctors work fine also from friends who have them. |
