I thought I knew but I guess I don't.
Does a - - paint code mean "stripe delete" or does it have something to do with the paint itself.Reason why I ask is because I have a buddy who purchased a '69 Z/28 new off the showroom here in Monterey in late '69 and it is a "- -" code car.The car was originally Pink in color and we always just assumed that the - - code meant NO paint at all but I just can't see GM selling a car in primer so I ask you guys...the experts...what is the real meaning behind a "- -" code car?Thanks...as always! John

John, for a broader explanation of "--" trim tag designation, see the CRG "decoding" section. www.camaros.org. You will see that it could mean a special paint color or stripe delete or a non-standard stripe color, but not primer only. For example, my '68Z built in May of 1968 is a "--" paint code and it is tuxedo black which was dropped in January of 1968 as a standard color.

Nope, Mary Kay top seller! [/ QUOTE ] I think I snuck a picture of it in it's present day Penske Blue livery in my upcoming (7/30) submission of "reader's rides" (maybe Bruce can confirm )...the owner is the one who painted my car.He did leave one tiny spec of the original color under the rear license plate...because many don't believe him. We've entertained the "Mary Kay" angle for many years thinking maybe, possibly it was ordered as such...he never got the straight answer at purchase so I guess it'll always remain a mystery. ![]()
