Can anybody help me with a few questions for my book?
![]() In 1967, Milt Schornack with Dave & Sid Warren worked an OHC 6 with Thorley-designed headers, and a Man-A-Fre tri-power intake. They also Bobcatted the car -- with some amazing results. I need to know... a) what was the first production year for the Tempest OHC 6? b) Was the 250cid the only available displacement? c) Has anyone driven one? What kinda performance did you experience? Thanks in advance! ![]() Keith

<font color="blue"> The engine was 3.8 litres (230 CID) in 66-67, and 4.1 litres (250 CID) in 68-69. The best engines to build up are the 1968 blocks.

Keith,
I have a 67 230ci OHC Sprint (4 barrel) engine in a Fitch Firebird. There fun to drive because of the 6500 rpm redline, lots of torque, From 0-60 I think it can keep up with most any factory v8. It doesn't have much of a top end. The only way to go in my opinion is with a 4 speed and it has to be a Saginaw with a 3.11 or 3.50 first gear. Another great source for info is http://pub83.ezboard.com/bsohcsix -Rick

To add, the Sprint was available through 1969 on both the F-body and the A-body.

One night when I was about 14; very late, a 69 LeMans with an OHC6 cut one of the meanest donuts I've ever seen in the culdisack where our house was. Some time later we saw the car parked while riding our Schwinn's in the neighborhood, and looking to find what monster motor was in the car we were shocked to find out it only had a 6.

Keith,
As for driving impressions, my next door neighbor bought a new '66 Lemans Sprint. It had a Hurst floor shifter for the 3-speed. I'm sure she never opened the 4bbl, because when she let me drive it (It was less than a year old and I was on my permit), I punched it in 1st from a roll. The 4bbl kicked in and left a squeak of rubber from the right rear tire. I powered 2nd and left a decent patch. She started screaming, "stop it, stop it...you're ruining my car!!" It felt like a 300hp 327. Terrific car. But of course, I never got to drive it again............... ![]() Neat car - light yellow with a black vinyl top and interior. (heavy duty clutch too).
