CAMARO!!!

(what were you thinkiní?)

Well, now that I got your attention, I would like to formally introduce myselfÖ

My name is Rita Schultz. Growing up in the "Motor City", I have been passionate about cars for as long as I can remember. I have been happily married to a ěPontiac guyî for 14 years. We met while cruising Gratiot (cruise strip similar to Woodward Ave.). He was in a Pontiac 2+2; I was driving a Buick Grand National. Although I love all GM products, I consider myself a ěChevy girlî. My first car was a Chevy, and I currently own a ë69 RS Camaro Convertible (pictured above) and 8 í69 YENKO Camaros (unfortunately, the Yenkos are all in 1:18 scale ). I bought my Camaro five years ago, as I have always wanted a convertible. Not to mention, it has my ěinitialsî all over it! I was so excited when I found it that I sold BOTH of my Pontiacs to purchase it (I had a ë67 Firebird & an ë88 Trans Am). I would love to own a "Yenko" Camaro, but unless I can convince my husband to sell that blue and white car that I'm leaning on in the picture below, it will probably never happen.

I have been posting on another board for two years, and enjoy it very much. My husband Bill, however, thinks Iím crazy. The only time he uses our computer is for his occasional search on eBay or Trader-on-Line. His very first time posting anything on an Internet forum was a just few days ago (on here). Since it was a negative experience, I doubt he will ever be back . Thatís a shame because he is both very knowledgeable and shall I say, ěcharismaticî. I, on the other hand, will probably stick around as I think this is a pretty cool place.

Well, with that said, I look forward to chatting with you guys. Although it was fun to be part of the world record for ěmost Pontiac posts on a Chevy forumî, Iím anxious to check out some of the other areas on here!

Rita

Welcome, nice "Topless" Camaro. My first car was a 69 Camaro conv, but it was a 6 cyl that I bought for $2K when I was in college. I never realised how solid that car really was until I sold it years later and started looking for a real V8 convertible. Right now my 69 JL8 is still being restored and I'm waiting for a 68 Camaro to be delivered any day. Once you get hooked, it's hard to break free.

Finally, some good humor around here. Rita, you and Bill should make the short trip to Chevy Vettefest this weekend. I know HE will probably get hives, but, YOU will be in Chevy heaven. There should be about 60 "Supercars" brought mostly by people from this site. I'm sure a bunch of Yenkos will be part of that group, so, that will either scratch your itch or make it worse.

Hi Rita,

Welcome, and that is indeed a beautiful Camaro! Sorry to see that your hubby got abused in that lengthy thread, but glad to see you've kept your sense of humor. There's a lot of great information to be learned from some very knowledgeable folks on this site.

Not a problem. I realize now that it was probably just one individual.

I guess I should tell you a little bit about ěMr. BillyBobcatî:

He is without a doubt, a diehard Pontiac guy. Growing up with a dad that raced Pontiacs, he has been around them his entire life. His first car was a 1970 GTO, which he still has today. As many of you already know from the "never ending" Pontiac post on here, he also owns the 1969 Royal Bobcat Test car. He has always been very active in the Pontiac hobby. He was the President of a Pontiac club when he was only 18 years old! He was one of the founders of the local GTO club, and went on to serve 12 years as an officer (first as Vice-President, then later as President). He also spent 11 years as the Event Coordinator for the "GTO Classic Weekend". This show has grown to become one of the LARGEST ALL GTO shows in the country.

Even though he works 7 days a week (downfall of owning your own business), he always finds time to help others. A couple weeks ago he used his enclosed car trailer to take his friendís GTO from the ěsandblasterî to the body shop. Bill said, ěhe did not want it to get wetî (it was sprinkling outside). I could not tell you how many times he has gone along with people to inspect cars before they bought them, including my niece. He must have spent every weekend for 2 MONTHS looking for her first car (a í70 Chevelle). Since he is so well known and respected around here, he gets phone calls almost every day from guys who have Pontiac related questions. I often call him a ěwalking dictionaryî when it comes to cars, LOL!

He is a very nice and mild-mannered man. I think he may have got that from his dad. We lost him a couple years ago to Cancer. He was the kindest, most UN-SELFISH man I have ever met, and I doubt I will ever meet another one like him as long as I live! Here is the article that appeared in the May/June 2001 issue of Pontiac Enthusiast after he passed away:

THANKS for welcoming me and for all the nice compliments on my car,

Rita

That's cool Rita. That takes alot of dedication. I wish there were more guys like that in the hobby today, the kind that keep it alive and thriving. Unfortunately there are alot of fly by nights out there looking to make a quick $$ and have a negative effect on the hobby because of it.. Inflating prices on lesser cars.. putting fake cars into circulation..etc.. It just makes it that much harder for us little guys that don't have the funds to just go out and buy our dream car and enjoy to participate in the hobby these days. I've had some lesser muscle cars in the past, but right now my stable consists of a '99 Jeep GC...Thats it.. It's everything I can do to just scrape together $700 to go and pick up a beat '56 Chevy I got my eye on just so I can enjoy the fun of working on it to create something... Our hobby needs the good guys like that who go the extra distance if for nothing more than the satisfaction and appreciation. Those are the type of enthusiasts that you know who they are right away, same goes for the other kind.. I've made some good friends particapting on this board, and those good people know who they are. They're the backbone of our hobby and they have dirty hands to prove it. I may not have much money, but I've got dirty hands and a love for Muscle cars that will out-live me. I'll make sure my 8-month old Daughter will be able to point out a 454 and tell you the compression ratio and horsepower/torque numbers in years to come.

ps..when and if I'm able to get this 56 Chevy.. are you guys gonna make me change my handle on here??

Ironically, that ($700) is EXACTLY what Bill paid for his Royal Bobcat (keep in mind, that was in 1979 )

Rita

PS~ I hope you get that '56 Chevy!
