Saw this the other day in Rockville, MD. Was Hugger Orange SS/RS, L78, black houndstooth, and the stripe that goes up to the hood (the one not available on SSs).
Owner had the original window sticker, which showed a LeMans Blue L34 (rarer than an L78) with 4.10. Thought 4.10 gears was unusual for a non-solid lifter car, but you guys are the experts - thoughts? |

L34 would have come standard with 3.31. Performance axle was 3.55.
4.10 was available special order, as were 2.73 and 3.73 according to the GM heritage center option listings. What is with the rounded pinking shear edges? Page 179: GM Heritage option lists.

Not many options on this car (originally)! </div></div> Wow... SS350 with 4.10s likely surprised quite a few Big Block cars in the first two gears back in the day. Didn't think you could even get gears that deep with the L48. |

Wow,just $2.15 to upgrade to a 4.10 </div></div> Well, it's not an upgrade where they have to remove what is in there and replace it with 4.10's. They just chose a 4.10 rear end from the parts bin. It's not any more expensive to manufacture that ratio. The extra cost is more because of a change from what is standard than a production cost. Try and order an optional ratio today, and it's a big upcharge. Is that because it cost extra, or it screws with the corporate fuel mileage? |
