Default Nova headlight bezel question

This is concerning 69 SS Nova's. I am painting the headlight bezels, and need some guidance. It seems some have the all the fins blacked out, except the top and bottom fins, like the SS grill. Then I see some with the SS grill, and the headlight bezel fins are all chromed. Anyone know which is correct, or if both kinds of bezels were used......etc. Here's a shot of each, although the camera flash makes them look the same.

It's logical to me, that the bezels should match the grill, and both be blacked out, but I see some SS Nova's, with all the fins chromed.

Here are shots of each type.

Thanks guys....

Brian, I figured Grady's car would be correct....My dilemma is that I have the original bezels from the 6 cyl Nova, that have all the fins chromed. I tried to paint them, and I'm not happy with the outcome. The chrome has some pitting, and I don't think they're worth saving/chroming, for this project/hot rod.

So I ordered repro's, which should be here today. But they also have all the fins chromed. I may just repaint the middle fins on the repro's, if they fit. I see a lot of 69 SS Nova's with the chrome fins, but thats probably because that's how they sell the repro's.

They do repro the SS grill, and it's a nice piece, but then why not make the repro bezels to match.............or do they? I haven't seen any.

Great for the topic but the 1'st Nova pic posted w/ Legendary plate and incorrect bezel paint is a '70, right?
To be specific too, the white Acadian brochure pic is really a '68 as the '69 and up non SS cars had no grille ctr. emblem or Acadian script on the rear flanks.

Yes, the Legendary car is a '70, with the non-SS bezels. They are typical of NOS bezels in that all ribs are unpainted, simply paint those that should be black.

Ok, I got the repro bezels today. They actually look and fit great, but they do have the chrome tip fins throughout. I think I'm gonna just paint the middle fins on these repro's and be done with it. Thanks again for the advise.

Hey Bill,
We met a few months ago at the AACA national meet at Carlisle. Our trailers were parked close to one another and I had my red 68 original/survivor Nova SS with me. I bought this car from Brent396, a member here, a year and a half ago. FWIW, even though mine is a 68 the headlight bezels are the same as the Acadia pictured above on the dealer brochure, ie; top and bottom ribs are chrome and ribs in middle are black. I can't see the pics you posted from my office computer, all I see are squares with red X's. Are you going to Hershey? If so what are you taking? I am taking my 68 for the second leg of judging in the HPOF class. Let me know if you are going and I'll look for you.

Dave

I need to amend my above post. My 68 is NOT like the above pic of the Acadian in the dealer brochure. It is like the bottom pic of your original post. I was on my office computer and it was blocking your pics (pisses me off). I thought about it on the way home from from work and went to the garage and looked. The Acadian has chrome directly around the headlight-the Nova SS has black. Sorry for any confusion.
