Default Madden (Citrus Chris') Split Window Vette racer!

Hi Bruce

I will start with sharing my 1963 Split Window original Super Gas Corvette with SYC members

The caR was originally saved from the salvage crusher in the mid 60’s and made into a straight axle gasser in the Dallas area. It was then traded to Buz Post Chevy in Arlington by a gentleman for a pickup truck. There Buz had it upgraded to a big block chevy and power glide and then went Super Gas racing. It was raced professionally by Jeff Hefler doing the driving, who told me that the car was a very "spooky ride" but launched hard and went straight. The car won the 1994 NHRA Houston Super Gas class and set a few records. I have the National Dragster magazine article to go with car, along with a complete photo album of numerous original vintage pictures of the car through out its life

The car was purchased it in 1994 by Mike Flamm, who took it home and completely disassembled it. Keep the body, frame, Dana 60 rear (upgraded to 4 link from ladder bar) and the dropped tube front axle. Upgraded everything, Strange brakes, Moser axles, new cage and under floor structure. Keeping the Reher Morrison roller 454 (650 HP) and a race prepped power glide. He spent 2 years getting the body perfect and applying 4 coats of PPG hugger orange/white stripe, and 6 coats of clear. Went racing a little in brackets and some shows. This combination goes 9.70’s at 141 with ease on the engine no juice and weighs in at only 2600 lbs.

The car also won the Best Comp Class in the 2006 Boise Roadster Show. The car is caged, and has the original dash in it now as when first raced . It has a complete new interior including headliner and custom seats in stunning white. The original plexiglass has been replaced with windshield/ door glass and regulators on the main side windows and wing windows. Steering is a rack and pinion mounted on the axle with a Flaming River tilt column . A new Painless wiring harness was installed to control the lights, water pump, fans, dual Holley fuel pumps, MSD ignition, and starter. New Autometer gauges and custom made 14 gallon aluminum tank.

The transmission is a Muncie 4 speed with Autogear case, Lakewood bell housing, and a Centerforce clutch. Ignition is all MSD with a rev limiter, 750 Dominator, and a complete Be Cool cooling system and a Meziere electric water pump. Custom pedals are floor mounted for the brakes and hydraulic clutch system. The Dana rear end has 4.88 gears and a spool, with the Mickey Thompson tires hugging the highway. The M/T wrap around classic Cragar SS wheels 15x4 front and 15x14 on the rear.

This car looks/ sounds and runs like it did in the mid 60's and 70's true to its roots as an original super gas.

It now sits in my private collection of classic cars and vintage race cars.

Thanks for allowing me to share my hobby and love for these cars.

regards

Citrus Chris
