Default replacing inner windo fuzzies 69 Camaro

I bought a very nice pair of original front door panels. One has had the window fuzzy replaced. They used 1/8 inch pop rivets instead of the original staples.

I am replacing the other window fuzzy with a perfect used one I had saved from an old door panel.

Removed the staples, drilled a couple holes in the new door panel to accept the staples. But.... I can't get the staples bent down hard enough to hold the inner fuzzy in place tightly. Tried needle nose pliers, screwdrivers, c-clamps and vice grip c-clamps. Can't get a good enough bite.

I don't have a giant metal piercing stapler.

What do you guys do? Use pop rivets as was done on the other side?

The repair on the other side doesn't look too bad, but if one looks very closely, you can see the rivets.

Thanks for any help.
Lynn
