Default Door Glass Channels & 1/4 Window Channel Resto?

Hi...
I'm looking to get some fresh door glass channels for my 1969 Nova and to restore the rear quarter window channels.

On the upper door glass channels, Classic Industries offers a set of channels under part number PW1098. Anyone have any experience with these parts? Are they close to stock and do they fit?

As far as the quarter glass channels are concerned, I have a set of repros and they're not great. I see that NNNova is offering a service to restore the 1/4 uprights. If you've used the NNNova service, can you tell me how good it was?Anyone know who does this for NNN or if anyone else offers this service, and if they can restore the uppers as well?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Wayne,

I have used the NNN restore service. It is great. The only difference was the bead was silver and needed to be painted black on the uppers.

The company they use can no longer get the correct channel to re do the uppers. So all they will do is the verticals. last pair I did was around the time they ran out of the upper channel, so it took a lot of time to get them back.

There is a repro that has a flexible upper and a close vertical. However you can not roll the windows down and up with out removing the plastic guide from the stainless because the repop vertical is not quite right.

I know of no other company that is restoring the uppers.

Best bet is ask NNN for the vertical restoration and the repro for the upper.

As for the door channel I used the NNN window channel. It matched the original. I do not know how it compares the classic version.

Does this help?
Greg

Thanks Greg. That's perfect! And gee whiz, now that I have your ear, I have one more question regarding quarter windows:

What's the right material/method mix to fasten the stainless strip to the quarter window glass? One of mine is perfect. And of course, the other was laying loose inside the quarter panel <g>.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Wayne,

The stainless window edges were attached with a rubber like strip that held glass in the groove. Same as used on the vent window. Most auto glass shops should know what I am talking about. I have also seen black friction tape used. Friction tape can be used in a pinch for the vent window, but I do not recommend using it on the quarter.

There are other guys on here who have probably done this more then me and can chime in.

Greg

You can get replacement 1/4 window channel rubber through D&R. (A Yenko sponser) The other parts suppliers most likely sell it as well, but I know for a fact D&R carries them.

Wayne, most local glass shops have the glass setting rubber. They usually stock varying thicknesses and widths. I just did both vent windows and quarters. It can be tricky to set the frames and guides. So get yourself some windex and plenty of extra setting material. If I remember correctly, I used the 1/8 in thick by 3/4 wide stuff and trimmed it with a stainless razor blade.
