I think Rob pretty much nailed it...I wouldn't be at all surprised to see that the L72 cam works better upstairs than the ZL1 cam does when running unported iron exhaust manifolds. On the other hand, the bigger ZL1 stick probably softens up the bottom enough to make the car considerably easier to launch, and when you consider the weight savings of the beercan engine, that would explain why it 60's well.
A side-by-side comparison of the 2 dyno sheets would be quite interesting.
