Re: #27 ZL-1 SOLD ?????? Info/EBAY Link Please
They don't really say it was a rebodied car. It says that after the trunk floor was removed they found a body in the junk yard and pieced the car back together. The way I read it is they used parts off the junk yard body to repair the original body.Someone please correct me if I'm reading it wrong. Dick mentioned that this ZL-1 ran in NHRA Super Stock class, sponsored by Allan Green Chevrolet and Boeing Airplane Company until Allan Green closed in 1970. The ZL-1 ran a best of 11.08 at 127 MPH. After the 1971 season, Dick took the car to a race shop to have the rear wheel wells slightly enlarged. The shop ended up removing the entire trunk floor in error. Dick sued the race shop for damages and won. He could not race the ZL-1 in this condition, so he found another body in the junkyard and pieced the racecar back together again. During 1979-1981 the ZL-1 won best appearing car at the NHRA events. Allan put in a full roll cage and a 9” Ford axle and ran 10.40’s. Car was painted Candy Apple Red with Lemon Yellow Swoosh and Purple highlights
